The start of a journey

I recently applied for, and was approved to be a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Memphis. While I am very excited about this, I am scared to death. Maybe I’m being a little extreme, but it’s something very new and unknown to me.
Will I be a good mentor? Will I say the right things? Will the little (the child) like me? All this stuff keeps gong through my head.
A week from today (Monday), I get to meet a candidate. All I know is he’s a 14 yo black foster kid that like sports and gaming, and his single foster parent wants to make sure he stays on a good course. I hope he likes sports cars. I have the sporting events taken care of. At least basketball anyway.
Well, here starts the journey. I plan on documenting my experience should you be interested in keeping up with it. I created a Mentor Program category in case you don’t want to sift through all the other muck in here
Wish me luck.

Good for you! My sister works for BBBS as a case worker. Her name is Sarah McClure. I hope you enjoy your venture. Jina invited me to her going-away party, so I’ll see you soon. JD (from some AIGA stuff)
